Andrew Greene was a regular conductor for the VSO through the 1980’s , also a repeiteur, prompt, and a wonderful vocal coach. He conducted the Anthony Besch “Faust” in the State Theatre in 1984 and Rodney Phillips’ “My Fair lady” in 1988 in which I performed in the chorus. He is now at Opera Australia heading up the Moffatt Oxenbould Young Artist program and is also the new 2013 president of Art Song New South Wales established by soprano Amanda Thane. Many fond memories of working with Andrew at the VSO ( Victoria Watson)

Just a little correction: the Anthony Besch Faust was part of the opening season in the State Theatre in 1984. In fact, although the collective memory seems to have forgotten, it was the first VSO production in the State Theatre. It was actually a revival of a production that had been performed in the Princess Theatre with Richard Divall conducting in 1983(??). The collective memory remembers the new production of Don Carlos and it was, I think, the official opening of the theatre, but somewhere someone must have one of the “Faust got in first” t-shirts!

You are correct Graham with just one further clarification. I believe it was a dark blue windcheater with white block letters which I think the lovely Peter Blizzard-Allen may have arranged for us first-nighters. Faust really did get in first!
